Original message:	ok, a quick for ya'll... been following the board for some time but can't fiqure one thing out. please be kind enough to explain what a "Brownswood" might be. you know, a brief taxonomy and perhaps a bit of anthropology. also, well done on the crate digger's party. very jealous. sounds like ya'll blew it up. spinning a party out here in portland, oregon next week and many of you have had an unintended hand in what will be flopping around on the decks. thanks eternal. this forum has been a goldmine. best to all, scott

Reply:	Robotic Scott I wanted to know this one as well. Without doubt 'Brownswooders' follow Gilles Peterson first. I've heard two description about the origin of 'Brownswood' involving the prophet, Gilles Peterson. Here they are: 1. It is where GP lives 2. It's where GPs Mum lives. Therefore,when Gilles plays all the vintage Jazzy bits in the 'Brownswood Basement,' it means he has been round to this mum's to get the holy (and extremely rare) vinyl. P

Reply:	Alright, being from the 'land' which is Brownswood, maybe I can help?! Brownswood is basically the name of Gilles Peterson's messsgeboard and a place in north London where, (I think) Gilles stores his records, obviously a Basement other wise he wouldn't have the name Brownswood Basement fo those one off special shows he does.. I think that's about right, if not Brownswood's heavyweight's should know the in's and out's of it all!
