NORMAN JAY AND MISS MONEYPENNY'S Over the years, Norman Jay and the Moneypenny's crew have often fatefully crossed paths. This began as far back as the late 70's when Graham Warr, a local DJ promoter and record shop owner, ran a weekly night of all that was good and imported on the jazz funk scene at the imfamous Midlands club 'Chaplains'. The venue was frequented by a very young Norman Jay and Jim 'Shaft' Ryan. Graham Warr's soundtrack of the night is cited by both DJ's as being very influential in shaping their early musical tastes. As the years progressed, the Birmingham club scene became more renowned for its shirt and tie door policy than it's musical credibility. This was the 80's and Birmingham people with a more discerning musical taste had to venture south of Watford Gap to satisfy this passion. This was a route that the Moneypenny's boys were to follow. The boys' quote both Norman's Shake & Fingerpop events and the legendary High On Hope parties at Dingwalls as well as the glamorous Choice nights at Subterrania as nights they frequented, dancing the night away to Norman's funky soundtrack. Once the boys started promoting the Chuff Chuff parties it was fond memories of those wonderful nights that convinced them that Norman was the man to dj the last set in Chuff Chuff's alternative room, which has always proved hugely popular with their outrageous crowd. Again, when the Moneypenny's bandwagon started Norman became very much part of Moneypenny's music policy; his diverse taste going down equally as well when playing a deep house set as he does when he plays funky good grooves in the alternative room. This relationship has been cemented further with Norman joining the Moneypenny's tour as far afield as Hong Kong, as well as being featured annually at Moneypenny's popular club nights in Ibiza and Majorca. Dermot Ryan, one of the promoters of Miss Moneypenny's stresses the importance of Norman Jay in the present club climate, "Norman has always epitomised to us at Moneypenny's someone who is all consuming in his knowledge of music; put him on at any of our nights and you'll always be sure of quality. For me Norman paid the club one of our biggest compliments when he said "Miss Moneypenny's was the first big club to tempt me outside the bright lights of the London club scene". "From the first illegal warehouse parties to glamming it up in Ibiza, Norman Jay is the one true Godfather of British Club Culture. Whether playing classic disco or upfront house, he lives and breathes the funk" Muzik Magazine, February 1999 SALES HOTLINE K-Tel Entertainment UK Please allow 28 days for delivery.
